ART, MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT
For a small city the size of Wilmington and several small, family-type beaches (about 175,000 year-round residents), the art and music
scene is equal to many larger cities.
Artists utilizing a variety of media reside here, and numerous galleries and studios are well-supported by both locals and visitors. Thanks in
part to being the home of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, there is an abundance of music venues for music lovers of all ages and tastes
-- from jazz to country to rock at various clubs and bars, to free concerts at Waterfront Park downtown and at Mayfaire, Airlie Gardens, Hugh McRae
Park and the beaches in summer, as well as concerts at Thalian Hall and other venues.
For entertainment -- activities, amusements, attractions -- you won't be lacking for something to do or see, whether you're a local or visiting
for a few days or weeks. Be sure to visit historic downtown Wilmington with its many boutique shops, restaurants and music and art venues, lovely
old mansions, take a stroll on the Riverwalk and perhaps a boat cruise on the river or horsedrawn carriage ride. For parking downtown, a parking
deck is recommended (first hour free -- see locations/rates here) as opposed to onstreet metered parking -- the time expires quicker than you realize and you don't want a ticket!
